CHILD SEX CHARGES: CHARLES SHERIFF CORRECTIONAL OFFICER RICHARD DEAN FACES CHILD MOLESTER CHARGES; FRITZ INDICTS ALLEN WEILAND ON CHILD SEX OFFENCES FROM 1990s
LA PLATA: Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry reports that a Charles County Correctional Officer has been suspended following his indictment and arrest in King George County, Virginia on April 13, 2021.
Sheriff Berry reports that in August of 2020, the Charles County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation into a corrections officer who worked at the Charles County Detention Center.
Based on the nature of the allegations, CFC Richard Dean, a 14-year-veteran was suspended immediately.

ALLEN WEILAND INDICTED BY ST. MARY’S GRAND JURY FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES FROM 1990s
LEONARDTOWN, MD. – St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz brought a case to the Grand Jury of St. Mary’s which has resulted in indictments handed down against a Leonardtown resident.
Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that in March of 2021, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor that occurred in the late 1990s. The suspect was identified as Allen Briscoe Weiland, 59 of Leonardtown. During the course of the investigation, Cameron says evidence was obtained supporting the allegations.
The investigation was presented to the Grand Jury for St. Mary’s County and an indictment issued for Weiland’s arrest. On April 9, 2021, Weiland was arrested and charged with the following:
- Sex Offense Second Degree (two counts)
- Sex Offense Third Degree (two counts)

According to Maryland court records, there are no prior criminal allegations against Weiland, who lives on a farm of about seventy acres on the outskirts of Leonardtown.
