VIRGINIA STATE POLICE NEWS BEAT: Fatal crash in Brunswick County

Virginia State Police investigate a fatal crash in Brunswick County.

VALENTINES, VA. The Virginia State Police report that on Friday, November 25, 2022, at approximately 1:44 p.m., state police investigated a single-vehicle crash that took the life of the passenger and left the driver with life-threatening injuries. 

The Virginia State Police report that the crash occurred on Route 600/Manning Road, east of Route 670/Western Mill Road. 

The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, 73 YO Neil L. Jones, was traveling westbound on Manning Road at a high rate of speed. Jones entered a sharp curve and lost control of the vehicle, running off the road. Jones overcorrected the vehicle, crossed the lanes of travel and off the roadway striking an embankment. Upon hitting the embankment, the vehicle struck several trees and a mailbox before coming to rest in the lanes of travel. 

Front seat passenger, 60YO Lester L. Weaver, of the 1900 block of Western Mill Road, Lawrenceville, Virginia, was not wearing his safety belt and died upon impact. Jones, also not wearing his safety belt, was flown from the scene to MCV/Richmond.
Police say that there was no evidence of alcohol playing a contributing factor. next of kin have been identified and notified.
