COURT NEWS Randy Dindlebeck Convicted of Multiple Counts of Felony Sex Abuse of a Child; Will Be a Party Favor in the Slammer

LEONARDTOWN, MD – St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced on May 18, 2023, that a St. Mary’s County Circuit Court jury convicted Randy Thomas Dindlebeck, 27(DOB 05/25/1995) of Mechanicsville, Md, on all counts, including sex abuse of a minor and third-degree sex offense, stemming from multiple incidents of sexual abuse on the same child between July and September 2021.

St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling sent a prepared statement to THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY. She said, “No child should ever undergo this horror, and I sincerely hope the verdict provides closure and relief to the victim and family. My office will continue prosecuting these cases vigorously; we are committed to defending our children.” Sterling said, “These types of cases are difficult and complicated, and I want to extend my thanks and appreciation to the jury for their time and attention during the trial.”

Dindlebeck also lived in Calvert County on Adelina Road and resided at a relative’s residence in Newburg, in Charles County. The charges against him for which he was convicted specified that the child he molested was in his family and household.   Court records show that Dindlebeck was represented by attorneys John Erly of Prince Frederick and Bruce Johnson of Bowie.

 Three times in recent years, he was charged with drug possession other than marijuana, and the charges against him were put on the Stet Docket by Calvert County States Attorney Laura Martin, keeping him out of jail and available to prey on children.

A victim brought a domestic violence and child abuse complaint and sought a protective order against Randy Dindlebeck in St. Mary’s District Court, which District Court Judge James Tanavage granted on December 6, 2021.

Chief of the Special Victims Unit, Senior Assistant St. Mary’s State’s Attorney Sarah Proctor, prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of St. Mary’s County, assisted by Ashley Sowls.

Detective Corporal Trevor Teague of St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department was the lead investigator, and the St. Mary’s County Department of Social Services, Child Protective Services, assisted in the investigation.

 Dindlebeck was ordered held without bond pending a sentencing hearing before Circuit Court Judge Joseph Stanalonis, who presided over the trial.
