ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 12, 2023) – AT 7:50 p.m. on Sunday June 11, police received a call to the 1000 block of Paddington Place off Edgewood Road in Annapolis for a report of a shooting incident. 

When police arrived, they found a total of six victims, including three fatalities. The other three victims were taken to area hospitals, two by airlift and one by ambulance. As of Monday morning, the three hospitalized victims are in stable condition. 

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Nicholas Mireles, 55, of Odenton
  • Mario Antonio Mireles Ruiz, 27, of Annapolis
  • Christian Marlon Segovia, 25, of Severn

DRUG DEALING NO MORE FOR CHRISTIAN MARLON SEGOVIA

Annapolis Police report that one of the men who were shooting at an Annapolis home on Sunday, June 11, 2023, and suffered return fire from a man protecting his parent’s home was shot dead.  The dead guy, hardly a victim, was identified as Christian Marlon Segovia (DOB 07/17/1998) of 8118 Mount Aventine, Severn, Maryland.  Court records in Maryland show that Segovia was indicted by the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Grand Jury on March 3, 2023, and has pending charges, which will soon be abated by his death, for felony possession of drugs with the intent of distribution. Segovia was charged in connection with an offense on February 13, 2023.

Segovia was also charged by Annapolis City Police Officer Anthony Blount with two counts of second-degree assault on April 6, 2023, with a trial set for July 21, 2023, which will soon be canceled due to the cancellation of his career in crime ended.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY POLICE REPORTED: On February 13, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation in the area of Furnace Brand Road and East Biddle Road in Glen Burnie. Based on evidence that was on display in plain view of the officers a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers recovered approximately 40g of suspected crack cocaine from the vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged accordingly.

GUNS, ROBBERY, AND ASSAULT PEPPERED THE CRIMINAL CAREER OF MARIO MIRELES-RUIZ

Mario Alfredo Mireles-Ruiz (DOB 09/03/1995) of 1004 Paddington Place, Annapolis, Md., incurred several incidents with criminal charges in Anne Arundel County. Anne Arundel Police Officer Andrew Salenieks charged him with theft and second-degree assault for an offense that took place on May 10, 2018, and resulted in a plea deal with Anne Arundel County States Attorney Wes Adams who placed the charges on the Stet Docket on August 10, 2018, in Anne Arundel District Court before Judge Jonas D. Legum with no fine and no time.  Assault charges filed against Mireles-Ruiz by Annapolis City Police Officer Jessica Kirchner in 2014 ended in the same way when Anne Arundel States Attorney Wes Adams approved a plea deal on March 9, 2015.

An arrest warrant charging Mario Mireles-Ruiz with six counts of possessing a handgun in a vehicle, on his person, as well as first and second-degree assault, were issued by Anne Arundel District Court for an offense that took place on June 5, 2014.

A plea deal before Anne Arundel County Judge Thomas V. Miller III on June 12, 2018, resulted in a plea on a charge of robbery and dropped charges of assault and theft approved by Anne Arundel States Attorney Anne Colt Leitess.

CHARLES ROBERT SMITH CHARGED WITH MURDER

The suspect was taken into custody on Sunday night. Police recovered both a semi-automatic handgun and a long gun.

On Monday morning, Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney charged Charles Robert Smith, 43, with multiple crimes.

The Annapolis Police Department confirms six people were shot in the 100 block of Paddington Place. Three victims were reported dead on the scene, and three victims were taken to Shock Trauma Units. All are in stable condition.

The Annapolis Police report that a suspect is in custody with no immediate danger to the public other than the occasional gunfire in a quiet residential neighborhood where strict gun laws do not keep criminals from obtaining firearms in the People’s Republic of Maryland.
