NORFOLK POLICE BEAT: Store Clerk Had Surprise for Masked Gunman DeAndre Freeman That Announced a Robbery: Bam! He Shot the Robber!

NORFOLK, VA.  –  Robbing stores can be a life-ending adventure when a store clerk is armed and ain’t gonna take it anymore, as one criminal found out on May 6, 2019.

Norfolk Police say that Detectives have charged a man that was wounded during a robbery attempt that occurred at a MetroPCS store in Norfolk.

DeAndre Freeman, 23, of the 900 block of Trice Terrace has been charged with three counts of attempted robbery, two counts of attempted malicious wounding, seven counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of abduction, and one count each of discharging a firearm in an occupied building and wearing a mask in public.

The charges are a result of an attempted robbery that occurred at the MetroPCS store located at 3226 Cromwell Drive.

A call about the robbery came in around 4 p.m.

The investigation shows the suspect entered the store with his face covered and armed with a handgun. During the attempted robbery, a MetroPCS employee shot the suspect.

Freeman was found a short distance from the store when police arrived. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Once released, he will be transported to the Norfolk City Jail where he will be held without bond. 

No other injuries were reported.

Detectives say they recovered two guns from the scene, one from the suspect and the other from the store employee.
