ATTACK ON OFFICER: Robert Redding charged with the attempted murder of District Police Officer Emmanuel Kerr; Zamonte Clark newest killing in Southeast

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A police officer’s day can be deadly from early in the morning to the last stroke of the clock before midnight – and then all through the night.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District announced an arrest has been made of a suspect who repeatedly stabbed DC Police Officer Emmanuel Kerr.

The Felony Assault on a Police Officer offense occurred on Thursday, July 2, 2020, in the 1200 block of New York Avenue, Northwest when officers of the Second District responded at approximately 6:25 am, to a domestic violence assault in progress in the 1000 block of K Street, Northwest.

While responding, an officer from the Second District encountered the suspect in the 800 block of 13th Street, Northwest.

Police report that as the officer attempted to stop him, the suspect stabbed the officer multiple times with a pair of scissors. A citizen observed the struggle and assisted the officer with the apprehension of the suspect. The officer and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, July 2, 2020, 60-year-old Robert Redding, (DOB 12/07/1959) of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill and Felony Assault on a Police Officer.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – The plentiful land of murder and mayhem, known as Anacostia, provided yet another homicide.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, July 2, 2020, in the 1500 block of 25th Street, Southeast.

At approximately 4:12 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious male victim, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old Zamonte Clark, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.

Chief Peter Newsham said the homeless man’s actions were “very kind, very heroic,” and said that he probably saved the officer’s life.
