LAPLATA, MD. – Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry issued numerous reports of crime taking place in Charles County Schools involving weapons, drugs, and physical violence perpetrated by students.

Changes in Maryland law prohibit the arrest of punks fighting in schools, threatening to assault other students with guns and knives, and assaulting students and teachers. Removing these punks from schools in handcuffs and carting them off to a juvenile detention center is also prohibited by acts of the Maryland General Assembly.  Instead, the criminal kid punks are quickly released to parents and guardians, who likely are the crackheads that produced these future felons of America.

Charles County’s State Senator Arthur Ellis voted to make it tougher to jail kiddie criminals.

Maryland State Senator Jill P. Carter led the effort to make it nearly impossible to charge juveniles with crimes, leading to an explosion of serious crime by juveniles in Maryland.

(From WBAL) BALTIMORE —A Maryland state lawmaker is standing by legislation that prevents young children from facing charges and said the General Assembly failed to pass stronger gun safety measures.

Baltimore City Sen. Jill Carter, D-District 41, sponsored the Juvenile Justice Reform Bill that passed and took effect on June 1, 2022.

“I stand behind the legislation we passed,” Carter said. “Criminalizing children doesn’t improve public safety. The way to improve public safety is to address the child’s needs very early, not stigmatizing them with criminalization, not cops putting them in handcuffs, not putting them in cages or cells, not putting them in prison.”

The law sets a minimum age for the prosecution of a juvenile and provides mental health treatment and programs from the Departments of Juvenile Services and Social Services, including programs for children in need of supervision because of abuse, neglect and behavioral issues. MORE

The liberal socialist whack-job politicians of the Democratic Party who overwhelmingly control the Maryland General Assembly have created a crisis of chaos in public schools and have driven many families to pull their children from public schools in favor of private and parochial schools as well as homeschooling.

Knife recovered on school grounds after student displayed it to classmates:

On October 23, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., a school resource officer at Barnhart Elementary School was made aware of a student who brought a knife to school. The SRO initiated an investigation and determined the student brought the knife to school and showed it to other students outside the school building before school started. The student hid the knife before entering the building, and the knife was recovered on school property.

School Resource Officer investigating altercation involving multiple students at St. Charles High School.
On October 23, 2023, at 9 a.m., four St. Charles High School students assaulted two students inside a school bathroom. The students could get away from the suspects, but they sustained injuries from the assault and were treated by a school nurse. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation, and charges are pending.

School Resource Officer investigating attempted armed robbery of student on Milton Somers Middle School bus:
 On October 18, 2023, at 2:39 p.m., a student at Milton Somers Middle School was riding home from school on the bus when another student produced a knife, pointed it at the student, and demanded money. The student replied they did not have money, and the student with the knife put the knife away. A school resource officer initiated an investigation and identified the student with the knife. The student was located at school and still possessed the knife. The student was charged on a Juvenile Offense Report with attempted robbery and possession of a weapon on school grounds and was subsequently released to a parent.

School Resource Officer investigating multiple fights at Henry Lackey High School:

On October 19, 2023, at 11:47 a.m., multiple fights occurred inside Henry Lackey High School. Numerous patrol and school resource officers responded to break up the altercations. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation. At this time, it is not immediately clear if the fights are related. Involved students face possible criminal charges and school consequences.

School Resource Officer investigating assault involving seven students at St. Charles High School:

 On October 17 at 11:37 a.m., seven students were involved in an altercation at St. Charles High School. The students were separated, and the school resource officer initiated an investigation. At least one student was injured and was treated for their injury. The students face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending.

School Resource Officer investigating assaults at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School by traveling punks from St. Charles High School:

On October 16, 2023, at 3 p.m., two St. Charles High School students went to Benjamin Stoddert Middle School and assaulted a student who had just exited the school. The middle school student was taken to a school nurse for treatment. Shortly after that, the student who was initially assaulted went to the school’s gymnasium with three classmates, where they attacked another student in retaliation for the initial assault. All of the involved students were separated. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation, and charges are pending. The students also face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.

School Resource Officer investigating a threat to blow up Piccowaxen Middle School:

On October 16, 2023, during school dismissal, a student at Piccowaxen Middle School made a threat to “blow up the school.” School administrators were made aware, and a school resource officer (SRO) initiated an investigation. The SRO contacted the student’s family and notified the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services.

School Resource Officer Investigating 4th-Degree Sexual Assault at John Hanson Middle School:

On October 11, 2023, a disturbance between students occurred inside John Hanson Middle School. School administrators and the school resource officer (SRO) separated the students. The SRO initiated an investigation, which revealed a student was sexually assaulted during the disturbance. On October 13, the SRO identified the students involved in the assault. According to Maryland law, two students cannot be charged due to their age. The Charles County Department of Juvenile Services was notified, and the students face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.

School Resource Officer investigating altercation on school bus involving students from La Plata High School:

On October 12, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., three La Plata High School students were physically in a physical altercation while on the school bus. The bus driver pulled over, and officers from the CCSO and La Plata Police responded. The students were separated. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation. The students refused medical treatment, and their parents were contacted and responded to the location.

Pot recovered from two student lockers at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School:
 
On October 11, 2023, at 2:47 p.m., a school administrator at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School detected a strong odor of whacky tobacco (WEED) emanating from a student’s locker. Further investigation led to the recovery of cannabis inside two student lockers. The school resource officer recovered the cannabis and initiated an investigation. In accordance with Maryland state law, the students were charged on a civil citation for possession of cannabis. They also face disciplinary action from the Charles County Public Schools.

Student falls ill after ingesting an unknown substance from a vaping device at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School:

On October 5, 2023, a student at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School became ill after they used a vape pen containing what they believed to be cannabis. The student sought help from a school nurse and was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation.

School Resource Officer Investigating Altercation at Thomas Stone High School:

On September 27, 2023, at 11:06 a.m., three Thomas Stone High School students became involved in a physical altercation, which had to be separated by school staff and the school resource officer. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation. The students also face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.

School Resource Officer Investigating Assault on Mattawoman Middle School Bus:

On September 27, 2023, at 1:20 p.m., a school bus driver reported that two students were fighting on a Mattawoman Middle School bus. Patrol officers responded to the scene, where they found one of the involved students with facial injuries that occurred during the altercation. That student was transported to the hospital for treatment. In accordance with Maryland law, the students cannot be charged due to their age; however, the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services was notified, and the School Resource Officer is investigating. The students also face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.

Knife recovered from a student at Indian Head Elementary School:
 
On September 19, 2023, at 2 p.m., a school resource officer notified a school administrator of a student possessing a knife. The knife was recovered. In accordance with Maryland law, the student cannot be charged due to their age. The Charles County Department of Juvenile Services will be contacted. PFC Quigley is investigating.

Vape pen with possible CBD recovered from Matula elementary school student:

On September 19, 2023, at 1:15 p.m., school administrators at Matula Elementary School were notified of a student reportedly possessing a vape. A school resource officer initiated an investigation. Further investigation revealed two students were smoking the vape in a school bathroom. The vape, which was labeled as having 150 mg of CBD, was recovered from one of the students involved. In accordance with Maryland law, due to the age of the students, no one will be charged; however, the students do face disciplinary action from the Charles County Public Schools.

Two students injured during altercation at North Point High School:

On September 19, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., two North Point High School students were involved in an altercation inside a bathroom. Both students sustained minor injuries and were treated by a school nurse. The school resource officer is investigating. The students also face disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.

The School Resource Officer is investigating a report of a 4th-degree sex offense at John Hanson Middle School.

 On September 11 at 8:44 a.m., a student at John Hanson Middle School reported to a school resource officer that another student touched them in an inappropriate manner while in the locker room.

School Resource Officer investigating a threat of violence at Davis Middle School:

On September 8, 2023, the school resource officer (SRO) at Davis Middle School was made aware of a student’s statement about committing an act of violence at the school. The SRO initiated an investigation, contacted the student’s parents, and conducted a home visit. According to Maryland law, the student cannot be charged criminally due to their age but faces disciplinary consequences from the CCPS. Parents are urged to talk with their children about the consequences of making threats of violence.
