DIED AT SHOCK TRAUMA CENTER
ALERT TO RESIDENTS: 911 CALLS ARE NOT GOING OUT ON SIMULCAST TO BOTH MARYLAND STATE POLICE AND SHERIFF DEPUTIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLOWING THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TO BE FIRST ON THE SCENE AND TO CLAIM JURISDICTION OVER THE INVESTIGATION IN ORDER TO BUMP UP DEMANDS FOR INCREASED BUDGET.
THIS PRACTICE ENDANGERS THE PUBLIC AND LACK OF COOPERATION IS A LONG TRADITION OF THE GOOD OLD BOYS ST. MARY’S SHERIFF’S DEPT. AND LEADS TO EXACTLY THE KIND OF CRIME PROBLEM THAT AFFLICTS LEXINGTON PARK AND GREAT MILLS.
UPDATE: The motorist driving near the Home2 Suite hotel in Lexington Park has died at the trauma center.
St. Mary’s State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling reports that the death of a motorist is now a homicide investigation. On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Malic Quinn Freeland, 23, was pronounced deceased at the shock trauma center, where he had been undergoing treatment following an incident.
Freeland was the operator of the vehicle involved in an accident on Monday, February 26, 2024. Upon initial investigation, it was found that the car accident was caused by the victim having sustained a gunshot wound.
The victim’s remains will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
DRIVER SHOT AND CRASHED NEAR HOTEL
CRIME TOWN LEXINGTON PARK, MD. St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Convict Sheriff Steve Hall reports that on February 26, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the report of an automobile accident.
Deputies found a vehicle with a single occupant had crashed into a fence and a shed near Valley Drive and Fox Ridge Road in Lexington Park, MD.
First responders began providing aid to the driver, and it was discovered the victim had a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area Shock Trauma Center.
Detectives and Crime Lab Technicians from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to continue the investigation.

SLASHER STRIKES IN LEXINGTON PARK
LEXINGTON PARK, MD – On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of a disturbance in the 21000 block of Morris Drive in Lexington Park, MD.
The Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Department asserts that a victim was found with a significant laceration to the throat.
The victim was flown to a local shock trauma center for treatment. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Lab Technicians responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
