OXFORD, MD.  – Talbot County Sheriff Joe Gamble reports that on January 7, 2022, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office served a Criminal Summons on Jackson Valery Steckler, 23, (DOB 09/20/1998)  of Oxford, Md.

The District Court Commissioner issued a criminal summons for Steckler charging him with assault and malicious destruction of property.

Police say that these charges stem from an incident at his residence, which he shares with his mother, on January 4, 2022. Steckler was released upon his signature on the criminal summons.  Court records show that Gail R. Steckler is the complainant.  A preliminary hearing is set for February 11, 2022 in Talbot District Court.  Court records show that Gail Steckler, (DOB 12/16/1953) of 112 Water Oaks Way, Naples, Florida, was arrested and charged on January 5, 2022, by Talbot Sheriff’s Department Deputy K. Genna with disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.  Following a bail bond review, she was released on unsecured personal bond of $5,000.  A hearing in Talbot District Court is set for February 22, 2022, which is George Washington’s Birthday, and the court will have a special deal for all those who swear not to tell a lie that day.

On August 26, 2020, Jackson Steckler was stopped by Maryland State Police Trooper William Laham while he operated a 2014 Mercury with Florida tags on Boone Creek Road at Oxford Road and charged him with DWI.  With representation by Maurice Nelson in Talbot District Court, Steckler got a plea deal from Talbot County States Attorney Scott Patterson when he entered a guilty plea on February 1, 2021. THE DEAL: Steckler received a verdict of Probation Before Judgement with no fine and no time and 18 months of supervised probation.

THE WINCHESTER STAR: Man gets time served for assaults

WINCHESTER — (Aug. 12, 2019, by Evan Goodenow) An Oxford, Md., man who assaulted two people and briefly held them against their will last year was sentenced on Friday in Winchester Circuit Court.

In a plea bargain, Jackson V. Steckler received a three-year sentence on a strangulation charge with all but approximately one year of time served suspended. Steckler entered an Alford plea in which the defendant doesn’t admit guilt, but concedes the prosecution has enough evidence to convict him. Alford pleas are considered convictions by the court.

As part of the plea agreement, charges of malicious wounding and destruction of property and two counts of felony abduction were dismissed. Upon release, the 20-year-old Steckler will be on two years of supervised probation followed by two years of unsupervised probation. He must also undergo a mental health evaluation and comply with all its recommendations.

The beating occurred on Aug. 19, 2018, in an apartment in the 500 block of North Loudoun Street. A woman who lived at the apartment said Steckler became jealous of another man she was with, even though the woman said she and Steckler weren’t romantically involved. MORE
