LEONARDTOWN, MD – St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on March 17, 2018, Destiny Anne Key-Mellies, (DOB 01/12/1996) of 46705 Robert Leon Drive, Lexington Park, Md, was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se and Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol in Avenue by Dep. Carl Ball.  Key-Mellies was stopped by Dept. Ball as he operated a 2011 Toyota Camry on Burch Road. In a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, Key-Mellies entered a guilty plea to DWI on September 26, 2018. THE DEAL: A verdict of Probation Before Judgement resulted in a jail term of 180 days in the slammer with all of the jail time suspended.

Two years of supervised probation were part of the excellent deal arranged on her behalf by La Plata attorney Hammad Matin.  The deal was given the judicial blessing by District Court Judge Christy Holt Chesser.

DWI ARREST ENDS IN A PLEA DEAL IN ST. MARY’S; NO FINE, NO TIME

GREAT MILLS, MD. On April 25, 2018, Kevin Michael Kennedy, (DOB 05/22/1997) of 22260 Gardenview Way, Great Mills, Md, was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se and Driving While Impaired by Alcohol while he was operating a 2001 Chevy Trailblazer on Chancellor’s Run Road when stopped by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Lt. Edward Evans.  Kennedy hired Lexington Park attorney Bryan Dugan to be his dealmaker with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz in St. Mary’s District Court.  On August 10, 2018, Kennedy entered a guilty plea to DWI alcohol.  THE DEAL: Kennedy was sentenced to thirty days in the slammer with all thirty days suspended and a zero fine.  

Kevin Michael Kennedy hired attorney Bryan Dugan to represent him on charges of driving while suspended when he was arrested by Maryland State Trooper S. Ditoto on August 31, 2017, at 6:20 am and whipped together another plea deal on November 15, 2017.  THE DEAL: Kennedy was given a verdict of Probation Before Judgment along with eighteen months of unsupervised probation and zero fine.

 A drug charge placed against Kevin Michael Kennedy by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Deputy Daniel Holdsworth on March 8, 2017, was put on the Stet Docket on June 15, 2017, in St. Mary’s District Court in yet another plea deal arranged by attorney Bryan Dugan, who just may be on a permanent retainer by Kennedy for his various high marks in his driving, drugging, and drinking career.

Ten Days in Jail for DWI Conviction

HERMANVILLE, MD. – On May 2, 2018, David Glen Thiessen (DOB 04/10/1965) of 48281 Pickets Harbor, Road, was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving While Intoxicated near the Cedar Cove Beach by Dep. Tyler Westphal.  Court records reveal that Thiessen was operating a 2002 Hyundai on Surfside Drive at Hermanville, Md.

In St. Mary’s District Court on June 8, 2018, Thiessen was found guilty of two counts of DWI by District Court Judge Christy Holt Chesser following a Plea Deal made by St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz. THE DEAL: The conviction included a jail sentence of thirty days with all but ten days suspended.  Two years of supervised probation were also included.

Drug Charges Dropped Upon Demise of Defendant

LEXINGTON PARK, MD. – Why would a motorist try to drive while what is really controlling her mind is the drugs she might be taking?  St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on May 4, 2018, Joann Marie Tannehill, 52, of Park Hall, Md., was charged with Driving While Impaired by a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving a Vehicle While So Far Impaired by Drugs Cannot Drive Safely, Driving a Vehicle with Suspended Registration and Driving a Motor Vehicle without a License in the area of Lexington Park Baptist Church by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Dep. Richard Forbes.  St. Mary’s District Court Judge John F. Slade III assigned to hear the case on June 27, 2018. Court records show that the charges were abated by her death.

Helena Banks given Plea Deal on DWI and within three months was arrested for driving while suspended

MECHANICSVILLE, MD. – On May 12, 2018, Helena Machell Banks, (DOB 09/23/1983) of 25133 Woodmark Court, Clements, Md, was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Impaired by Alcohol and Driver Consuming Alcoholic Beverage in Passenger Area of Motor Vehicle on Highway in the Mechanicsville area by Saint Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Raley.  Banks was operating a 2017 Ford on Rt. 5 in Mechanicsville when stopped and taken to jail.  Banks was released from jail the same day on her own recognizance.  Court records show that on June 11, 2018, she entered a treatment program.

In a plea deal on July 11, 2018, with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, Banks entered a guilty plea to DWI.  THE DEAL: Banks was given a verdict of Probation Before Judgment with thirty days in jail and all thirty days of jail time suspended as part of the deal.  Two years of unsupervised probation were ordered which means that Banks won’t be inconvenienced by having to show up to visit a probation officer and providing urine samples.  Court records show that on February 4, 2019, a certificate of compliance was filed by MADD. District Court Judge Christy Holt Chesser presided over and blessed the Plea Deal.

Charles County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Officer P. Monaghan arrested Banks after stopping her while she operated a 2015 Mazda on Billingsley Road at Piney Church Road.  In a plea deal with Charles County States Attorney Anthony Covington on October 17, 2019, Banks entered a guilty plea to driving while her license was suspended.  Covington agreed to a verdict of Probation Before Judgement with no jail time and no fine.

LEXINGTON PARK, MD. – On May 15, 2018, Mayra Brenda Herrera, (DOB 08/31/1993) of 21487 Ritz Drive, Lexington Park, Md, was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se and Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol in Lexington Park by Saint Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Dep. Warren Forinash. Herrera was stopped by the deputy as she operated a 2009 Hyundai on Pleasant Drive at Ritz Drive at 1:05 am. Herrera was also charged with DWI while transporting a minor.  St. Mary’s States Attorney Fritz dropped the DWI with the child charge, which was blessed by District Court Judge John F. Slade III.

 In a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz on August 17, 2018, Herrera entered a guilty plea to DWI. THE DEAL: Herrera was sent to the Hotel St. Mary’s for sixty days with fifty days of the sentenced suspended.  With the plea deal, Fritz was spared the trouble of bothering to have to call witnesses, present evidence and otherwise put on a trial.

 Following her arrest for DWI by Maryland State Trooper Wayne Couter on February 5, 2015, as she operated a 2003 Volkswagen on Greenview Parkway at Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills, Md, Mayra Brenda Herrera wound up with a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz. THE DEAL: on August 7, 2015, Herrera entered a guilty plea and was fined $192.50 with a jail sentence of thirty days with all of the jail time suspended.  District Court Judge Christy Holt Chesser approved this plea deal.
